Join Kendall Vanderslice for a Thanksgiving Bake & Pray retreat on Saturday, November 23. This intimate retreat, held in Kendall’s home in Northgate Park in Durham, is capped at just 8 participants (address will be sent after registration is complete). We’ll gather from 9 am to 5 pm to learn about best practices for baking pie, how a yeasted dough can teach us to rest, and ways that you can prepare for hard conversations around the holiday table.

You’ll leave the retreat with:

  • 1 complete apple cranberry crumble pie, ready to freeze and bake off later in the week

  • 1 complete pie crust and one serving of pumpkin pie filling, ready to assemble and bake later in the week

  • 1 dozen brown butter dinner rolls, ready to proof and bake later in the week

  • A collection of prayers, discussion prompts, a community covenant, and a post-gathering examen to help you prepare for whatever topics might arise at the Thanksgiving dinner table

Together, we will learn how to use the practice of baking as a form of prayer, and also implement some time of embodied prayer together. By the end of this retreat, you should be ready to face Thanksgiving week from a posture of true thanks rather than anxiety.

What is included in my workshop fee?

The workshop fee covers all the ingredients and equipment you will need for your pies and dinner rolls, as well as the retreat programming and Edible Theology Thanksgiving recipes and conversation guide. The fee also covers a light coffee and pastry breakfast as well as lunch during our time together.

*All recipes and all meals served during the event are nut free and vegetarian. We cannot accommodate any dairy or wheat restrictions.
